I’m still feeling good! I just got out of the pre-day prep for Alana B.’s fashion show. It started off kind of dull but that was all of my doing really, and then things started to get exciting. Really and truthfully though, I think I would be excited even if they’d told me to stare at the wall for the entirety of the prep, just because I was in the same building as people preparing for an actual show less than a day away.
The event is a family affair, with EVERYONE in the family pitching in and helping out. I got in because I started researching Columbia designers and found her and the event. Anyways, when I arrived, there was nothing happening, just a lot of people sitting around. I pegged two groups though, models, and…others. I went and sat at the back of the others. About thirty minutes later, the models, I’d gotten it right, started to walk.
I was a kid in a candy store because I LOVE to watch models walk. I pick and perfect at them mentally while I walk which is why my friends liken me to Miss Jay. This is also the reason I want to have Casting Director privileges one day. Anyways, I watched these models walk and immediately picked out favorites and some that were… not favorites.
This went on no doubt for a few hours before I began to talk. Alana introduced herself to me, and then I introduced myself to Carmen, who turned around to introduce me to everyone else. I then began to hold a conversation with Alana’s mother, and I began to open up.
By the time the night was up I’d spoken about my dreams and aspirations, advised on the seating of the show, and done a lot of grunt work, willingly. I helped put up the runway, and the accompanying curtains, and was ready to do more, but the night was over. Alana did supply HUMONGOUS slices of pizza though, and I chowed down one cheese slice.
Hmm… so yeah, that was the night… oh but I did pick up some info for the show.
First there’ll be multiple designers apparently. Halfway through the night a woman came in with her crew, said a few words to Alana and Carmen and left. I caught snippets and saw gesturing, and gathered that she was showing also, but she’d be using plus size models.
Next, there will be spoken word. About the same time that the designer came in, a man with dreads appeared with a CD. He shook my hand along with many others, and from the snippets of conversation I caught, I gathered that he would be given spoken word, and that he had his own band, and also that there would indeed be another separate band to play jazz.
Lastly one of the designs was to be made into a cake. While we weren’t allowed to see any of the designs, because they were kept CLOSELY under raps, I was informed that one of the sponsors, was making a cake that was to be modeled after one of Alana’s designs.
I got more stuff but, it’s for me to know and tell you tomorrow of course! I do need to get to bed though, I have to be back up at The Coop at 1 to start getting ready for the show!
