I love fashion and this site will be dedicated to my fashion likes and dislikes. I do want to be a stylist and on my Google Reader I've subscribed to many fashion blogs so these will be posts mostly of fashion editorials, I like, even street fashion, or new labels that I'm into.
I think I'm going to start doing this on a regular basis, but these are some links that have things I either didn't get to but wanted to, though was interesting, or want to write about but don't know how. The word in parenthesis should take you directly to the article unless of course something in the sentence is hyperlinked, then what is in parenthesis will take you to the home page of the blog in question. Hope you enjoy!!! All of these came off of the Google Reader of course!
TOMOKI SUKEZANE makes a predominately black editorial for the August 2009 issue of SENSE, a Japanese magazine. (THE FASHIONISTO)
ANNA WINTOUR’s quips from her 60 minute interview get made into ringtones? (BRYAN BOY)
So I've been watching all of these blog posts as Look Book after Look Book come up, editorial after editorial, runway show after runway show... you get the picture and I figure, why not try my hand at FORECASTING!!! Now, I will warn you , normally I call one thing and I get it right, but I don't really do research. There's also one more thing that I called earlier that I won't mention in this post...but I'm still calling it... Because of space concerns I'll only be able to do three trends.
Color: Black
No, green isn't the new black, and neither is orange. Black is the new black and in my opinion it always will be. Black includes with it a sophistication that can not be suppressed or surpassed. It also has a versatility that is undeniable and that's why you see alot of it in the pictures I've chosen that range from editorials to street fashion.
Print Trend: Plaid
Kanye's wearing it, Diggy is wearing it, Pharrell is wearing it, I mean even the lumber jacks are wearing it! This next trend has garnered such a following that the SPC(So Plaid Crew) was created. In my opinion plaid has been around for a while, and for the last two or three seasons, has risen it's checkered head to show what it's really made of. When looking at the runway shows, and shoots for seasons to come, it doesn't seem like it's about to slack up either.
Cut: Pegleg
So I'd been trying to find a name for it for a while. This shortening and slimming of the trouser leg on a pair of pants. Just recently in the Milan and Paris Mens' shows, we saw that there was a variety of pants legs going on, giving versatility to the normal silhoette but I think the one that's going to most definately win out is what I've called, the pegleg. The pegleg is a shortened pant leg, about mid calf, or the bottom of the knee, that is a very slim fit. Let's go to the pictures and take a look.
TRENDS
Now Let's Talk ...
Devon S(black star), in a black blazer from H&M, Top Siders from SPERRYS, bag from H&M, vest and bowtie (both unreported), shows just how good black can look. I found him on LOOKBOOK.NU and was stunned by this look. I immediately fell in love with his style and the Highlighter jeans by LEVI'S. Now I will admit that he's a professional male model from San Francisco and he's with FORD but that does not detract from the effect of the outfit that he wore to a meeting! Anyways... he's here on Ning, and has a Blogspot here. (Even though he hasn't updated since January of this year, I'm still going to put it in the reader).
BOBBY R.(red star), is also from LookBook.nu and he absolutely KILLS in this all black ensemble he entitles Overcast Skies and Lullabies. This photographer in his black blazer by VV, skinny pants, dress shoes, and vintage buttoned shirt(all unnamed designers) is in my opinion the epitome of vampire chic. I love the medallion and even though I would never wear all of this together select peices from this look would merge happily with any other style you could think of.
Well maybe you're thinking it's only on the street... so I present you with a picture from FORTUNE'S FOOL's A/W 09 look book(blue star). I saw the pictures first on THE FASHIONISTO and starred them to take a second look, but hadn't gotten back to them. Anyways the entire collection is amazing and this look is all black like Bobby R. but, it doesn't have the same presentation. It's military chic. It's amazingly tailored. I love it, and you need to go see the rest of the lookbook!
TONY WARD(gray star) is here for WRANGLER JEANS. This is Ward's first time for Wrangler with a career that started back in 1982(his career is older than me!!) This shirt he has on here is the classic plaid button down really. It has pockets on both sides, short sleeved, and it's simple. You have the option to dress it up with a pair of khakis or down with a pair of Wranglers. I found the picture here on Design Scene(an awesome blog by the way!) and even though you'll find that the look from the Summer/ Spring 2010 Ad campaign, you'll still find plaid plastered on scarves, rags, shirts, vests, hats, ties, and even some pants!
"Patina Punk", SATTA's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection(white star) contains many trends that I wanted to forcast but didn't and even some that I did. One in particular is the pegleg. I actually found the picture on MEN'S RAGhere along with the rest of the collection. If you notice that the pants all end at about the top curve of the calf, and they are tailored there. They hug the calf and the leg, and whether bunched or left to hang the stle looks really good on the model. How that's going to translate onto my massive calves, I'm not sure, but it looks good on the model! You really should see the rest of the line either here at Men's Rag or here at JAMOOL. In it alot of the trends are shown including, black, plaid, and the pegleg.
KADEEM J(maroon star), also wears the pegleg trend. He has hiked up his pants to do so and you can clearly see the bunching but it still works. Again the hem hits the top of the curve of his calf and is tight around that area. This student/freelance photographer from Bronx, NY apparently likes his eclectic jewelry, and so do I.. The clothes, I will not lie, are chill and relaxed but the accessories definately in my opinion make the outfit. I found him here on Lookbook.nu.
So, I'm trying to save some pictures for an original post I thought up, and I'm getting side tracked like normal, you know, going off into other blogs. I found one for 10 Magazine and then my computer does the unthinkable and... closes my window. I'm furious because I hadn't saved my post, but I decide to put that one off till tomorrow and do this one tonight, because well, I did just learn of it.
These eyes, under all that paint are what stopped me in my tracks. This picture caused me to want to see the entire post, which caused me to write my own. I was intrigued by the contrast of the paint colors with the monotony of the actual clothing choices. The textures and planes contained in the picture blow my mine really and truly. Maybe I"m just weird, but I love the picture!
Now in this picture, the model and the clothes pop. My eyes immediately go to the lack of tie, and then down to the hankerchief/pocketstuffer. Last my eyes get lost in the paint on the model's face. In my opinion this editorial isn't really focused on like amazing peices, or crazy design, it's the texture and the color of these peices that make them unique. In this picture though, I don't see much that's unique.
Heres another picture that I adore because of the color palette. The green background makes the entire photo positively pop!!! I like the tie, with what seems to be a feather-like print on it. Whatever it is, I like it. alot. The shirt looks to be the same from the first photo, and the jacket from the second. His face is clean but.. is that red in his hair? Ohhh I like!!!
Velvety jacket. Same feather tie. Those are the two things I notice. Texture, and print. Then I"m up and at the paint. I'm in love with it all. I feel really serene like whatever that model's feeling is like seeping out of the picture into me. The material of the jacket gives it a soft, rounded feel instead of sharp and hard.
This is the last picture of the editorial and I like it because the hair and the hankerchief pop. While they pop in color, the jacket pops in material with it's subtle sheen, and so does the tie. Even though none of the articles are the same color they still all gel, and make for a pretty good look in my opinion.
There was a post on The Fashionisto about The Infamous Couture Pose and it's workability with males. Well I commented, and since the photos below had been taking I'd been searching for them. In one of my Google Reader tangents that I went off on, I found myself on the site Project Rungay for the first time, which is a blog about all of the reality fashion shows out there, and found that they had the PICTURES I'D BEEN SEARCHING FOR!
That happens alot though, things just appearing after you've given up all hope. Any way below are both Jonathan and Sandhurst giving us couture!
Jonathan
Sandhurst
What do you think about their pose?
Oh, and here is the picture of Niklas that came from The Fashionisto.
